I just had a driving lesson. My instructor is really nice and funny, and we always have pleasant conversations. This lesson, we were talking about mental health/anxiety/depression. We both shared experiences, and so on and so forth, but one thing he said really stuck out to me.
I’m not a big believer in the straight-and-narrow concept of ‘fate’. I don’t even know how to explain my thoughts on that and the surrounding topics, but I guess that I believe, that to an extent we control what happens to us. There are things we can’t control, like coincidence, other people (or their perceptions, for that matter), disease, injury, chance meetings, and so on.
Anyway, back to the story.
He said to me, in the deepest moments of depression and suicidal thoughts, at one point, he had a gun in his mouth.
He pulled the trigger, it was loaded, and nothing happened.
He then put the gun down, facing it against the wall, a few moments later it went off, leaving a hole in the wall.
Like I said, fate, I’m not so sure about. That being said, if that’s not an indication he was meant to be here, I don’t know what is.
Inspiring.
